Excerpts:

Tell us about how you began your career in this industry?

I have had a very interesting journey. When I was in my 2nd year of graduation, I was on the lookout for an internship opening. That is when I passed my interview for intern at UTV BINDASS and joined them. From being the casting intern to being the creative, I started growing in UTV.  Later I got an offer from Sagar Pictures and took it up. Every new job gave me a new learning. I used to be a very under-confident person, but working with Sagar Pictures and Rashmi Sharma Telefilms boosted my confidence and made me grow quite a lot.

How has your journey been so far? Explain about your highs and lows.
When you get into something new and your family is not aware of the working of your industry, it gets difficult but thankfully I had all the support from my family. They have always been my back bone in crucial moments and lows of my career.

Ups and downs are part of life, but one incident that I can't afford to forget is when I was fired from work when I was part of Sasural Simar Ka. No one likes to hear that you are fired and it happened with me, but I was retained. I am thankful to the producer and the channel team for supporting me. Without them, my journey would have been impossible.

Which phase in your life has been the most satisfying one?

I always end up having the same problem everywhere, and that is of not being satisfied with the work. My colleagues have made fun of this habit of mine, but that actually gave rise to situations wherein I got to work with different producers. This gave me a different experience and taught me different ways of working.

You have been part of Sasural Simar Ka for quite sometime. Recently the show was criticised for turning its protagonist into a makkhhi. What have you to say of this?
In every show there is a point where some track goes wrong and the show doesn't do well during that time... Even when I was associated with the show, we had falls but Sasural Simar Ka has a great team with Rashmi mam and the channel knowing exactly what they want.

Tell us about the emerging trends in TV today?
I think finite series with youth concepts and love stories are creating a new zone in TV. Even mature love stories are being liked by the audience.

Will you be creatively satisfied working in a supernatural and illogical concept?
I have seen people criticize supernatural concepts and illogical thoughts. Recently gorilla falling in love with the lead in a show was criticized. Well, when we sit to see the King Kong movie, we love it. That’s because the setup of the movie and show is different. But I would like to ask, why this discrimination?? Moreover when we talk about fantasy and supernatural stuff, I feel I get more creative opportunities to do different things, which cannot be done in a normal daily soap. Take for example Naagin which was loved by one and all and also enjoyed high ratings.

What do you think is the USP of a successful show these days?
Nowadays the audience has got very smart. They also keep an eye on the overall look of the show and then decide what is better for them. But the bottom line is that a good concept and good actors pursuing the roles of respective characters gets your show good audience.

Do you usually feel comfortable working with a good looker or a good actor? What is more important as per you?
Actually both go hand in hand. Many times a good looking actor gets you great fan following but a great actor enhances your scene with his/her acting skills.

What has your goal been in terms of your career?
I really want to produce a show... I know it is difficult and it holds many risks. But I will want to give it a try.

Will you want to do something beyond being creative?
If it is outside our industry, I would love to do event management; I feel it would be equally fun doing events which I experience as a creative.

How was it working with Rashmi Sharma?

It's great to work with her, you get many things to learn and for me working with her was a great experience as she was the one who trusted in me and gave me my first independent show. She is an extremely talented woman and has a great team of people. She single-handedly handles all the shows. There is one thing which I learned while working in her company - "Whatever you do, if you and your team is convinced, the track will work as everyone is putting their hundred percent into it."

Finite series will rule TV in the days to come. Your thoughts?
I also feel that finite series has to be the call of the day... Long running shows tend to get boring after a perid of time. This is where the quick paced finite shows win the battle.

What is your take on the web series business emerging?
Youngsters are getting into the web series watching habit. I feel daily soaps hardly have youth audience and due to the emerging business of web series and the way of storytelling, it will fetch a good market.

Do you think web series will push TV viewing to the back seat? Explain.
TV might not be much affected by web series till the time digital market gets settled very well in the rural and backward areas. Also, with the housewives calling their shots with the remote in most cases, TV will always have its place.
