Indian mining key for Volvo innovation
Gothenburg (Sweden): Volvo Trucks, which has been bringing innovation to the Indian mining industry, plans to incorporate some revolutionary technology changes in its range of vehicles to be sold in the country.
Executives at the Sweden-based company said, "Volvo dynamic steering (VDC), automatic traction control (ATC), increase front axle load (IFAL) and other leading innovation are being introduced in mining trucks across the globe.
These new features would be brought to India as well in the near future."
Volvo Trucks HQ senior VP (product and vehicle sales) Ricard Fritz said, "India is a very important and strategic market for us at Volvo Trucks. Indian mining experience is a key input for many of the product innovations in the mining segment."
Volvo's 'I-Shift' - a 12-speed automated gearbox that shifts to the right gear in every situation and offered for more than a decade - has already become an industry benchmark. In the VolvoFMX 440 8X4 mining tipper, the I-Shift plays an important role to ensure that the engine's capability reaches the ground effectively and efficiently. This is particularly important in rough conditions and where there's a lot of maneuvering involved.
Other innovations include the Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS), which combines conventional hydraulic power steering with an electronically-regulated electric motor fitted to the steering gear.
Volvo Trucks India VP (product strategy, brand and marketing) G V Rao said, "We have a market share of around 65%. We have pioneered many new concepts in the mining industry in India and have always been the first to introduce innovative products and features that focus solely on improving our customers' business through higher productivity, higher uptime, best-in-class fuel efficiency, best-in-industry safety features and class-leading driver comfort."

Volvo Trucks India president Pierre Jean Verge Salamon said, "The new features that have been introduced globally in the construction and mining trucks will help us further strengthen our position here in India as the technology leader. We intend to introduce these features shortly to the Indian market."
