Are Fictional Characters Sexier Than Real People?

For some reason, the last few months have been filled with tons of stories about people paying obscene amounts of money to make themselves look like dolls or characters from TV shows, and it only seems to be getting worse.

Woman dressed like a doll

With the recent release of the 50 Shades of Grey film, women and men have been saying that Mr Grey is their ideal man, and that if he looked like Jamie Dornan they would be totally happy with that. It is making us wonder – are fictional characters becoming sexier than real people to us?

The Barbie obsession

Ask many people what kind of dolls they played with when they were younger and they will tell you that Barbie and Ken were quite happily sitting in their perfect little home with those terrifying grins plastered onto their faces. Barbie is everywhere, which might help to explain why so many people want to look like her. It isn’t enough for them to have big boobs and blonde hair, as many want to go that step further.

For Blondie Bennett, a 38 year old from California, she wants to think like Barbie too, and so has been having hypnotherapy sessions in order to decrease her IQ and make herself more stupid. Yes, really. When asked about it, she said that she has already “had 20 sessions” and is “starting to feel ditzy and confused all the time.”

Unbelievably, there are many women out there who pay to look like the plastic doll. Two of them are Valeria Lukyanov and Lolita Richi, and both have the tiny waists and big boobs to match their favourite toy. Both have said that they haven’t had plastic surgery, but we find that hard to believe! Take a look at their pictures and see for yourself…

The obsession with Barbie doesn’t just stop at women though, and that is what worries us. Men are also paying a small fortune to try and match up to Barbie’s dream man. Celso Santebanes is a twenty year old from Brazil who has spent over $50,000 to look like Ken. Think that is shocking? Justin Jedlica is 32 years old and has been under the knife a total of 100 times and spent at least $100,000 to look like Ken.

TV, Comics, and Books

Unfortunately, it isn’t just toys that are getting this treatment. TV, comic, and book characters are all inspiring others to go under the knife in order to change their appearance to suit their desires.

One woman felt that Pamela Anderson, as she was in Baywatch, was her perfect role model, and so she has spent £20,000 to make herself look like the Baywatch babe. Carolyn Anderson, who also goes by the name of Scouse Pammie when working, regularly gets Botox injections, as well as lip tattoos to keep them looking perfect.

Recently, people have begun talking about the Filipino Herbert Chavez, a 37 year old who strives to look like Superman. Yes, he hopes to look like a superhero from a comic book. In the 18 years that he has been perfecting his look, he has undergone 23 surgeries and spent around £4,200 on making himself into Clark Kent. However, it isn’t all selfish, as he makes appearances to try and inspire children. “I like to show to the people, especially the children of the Philippines, that I’m here. Superman is real. What I was is to give them inspiration. To give them hope.”

On the more selfish side of the spectrum, we have the men trying to make themselves out to be Christian Grey. They have headed to the best tailors to get suits that he might wear, and have even begun to style their hair and live their lives like Mr Grey. It is working, too, as many online dating websites now offer tips on how to meet your very own Christian Grey.

Fiction or fact?

I would be lying if I said that I didn’t watch the latest Jurassic World film and think that being trapped with the hot and sexy Owen (Chris Pratt’s character) in a Jeep would be fantastic, or that watching the X-Men films was made a lot easier because of the hunky Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine.

However, I understand that both of those characters are fictional. Fantasies are fine, as long as we remember that they are just that. Wanting someone who looks like a certain character or even a doll in real life is unrealistic, and when it does happen, the person will usually have spent a great deal of money to make themselves look like that!

Honestly, I feel as though we are taking things too far. It is their own money, but we are responding to it and are now eager to find people like that ourselves. It would be nice, but it isn’t realistic of what will happen!
