Following a public breakup this fall, Jordin Sparks is single and ready to mingle – well, sort of.

“I’m pretty much dating myself, who am I kidding?!” the singer, who’s partnering with Microsoft Lumia for its #MakeItHappen campaign to make unfulfilled 2014 resolutions happen, told PEOPLE last week.

The American Idol alum, 25, and boyfriend of three years Jason Derulo split in September, and Sparks says she’s in no rush to jump back in the dating game.

“I’m not ready to deal with all that,” she says with a laugh, before adding: “I don’t have time for distractions or people who are going to waste my time. But I’m in a really good place. Mentally, physically, spiritually – I’m in the best place I’ve been in years!”

When she is ready to look for love again, though, might she join the ever-popular Tinder or OKCupid to find a match?

“Oh my gosh, never in a million years!” she says. “If you see a profile on there, it’s not me.”

The singer’s ruled out conventional online dating, but she thinks she may have found a new site to find potential suitors.

“I’m a big football fan, so if I Tweet about a football player, everybody assumes we’re dating!,” Sparks says. “I guess for somebody in my position, something like Twitter is kind of like an online dating site. Not that I’m doing that! But when it comes, I could try it ”

The Sparkle actress says she has one non-negotiable when it comes to standards: “As long as you’re a good man who respects me, it doesn’t take much.”

So what’s her type, otherwise? “I’m pretty much equal opportunity: black, white, brown, yellow, I don’t care,” the singer jokes. “As long as you’ve got a good job, it really doesn’t matter what you do. You can do construction, you can play sports, you can be a musician

In addition to her Microsoft partnership, Sparks is prepping to release her next album, Right Here, Right Now, in early 2015. The singer’s been in the studio on and off and has already released some new tunes via a hip-hop-tinged R&B mixtape, #ByeFelicia, on which she shows she’s already over Derulo and moving on.

“I’ve gotten to write a lot on this record,” says Sparks, noting studio time “was actually a very therapeutic process” following the breakup. “You’re getting all of the emotions on the record.”
