ClueCon 2015: 3 Reasons Why Open Source VoIP and WebRTC Developers Should Attend

Here are three reasons why open source VoIP and WebRTC Developers should attend ClueCon 2015. (Hint: FreeSWITCH)

OnSIP is developed on open source software, and we are proponents of open source projects. One open source project that is beloved at OnSIP is FreeSWITCH. Many of the business telephony features we offer today are built using it. (One example is our latest Enhanced Queue feature).

FreeSWITCH was conceived during a discussion between several open source leaders with a goal to improve the state of existing Internet telephony options. That meeting/event was named ClueCon, which has become a leading annual telephony and VoIP developers conference.

As a software engineer at OnSIP who has worked extensively with FreeSWITCH and WebRTC, I am heading to this year’s conference, scheduled for August 3 - 6 in Chicago. If you’re a developer interested in open source VoIP projects and/or WebRTC, you should too. We especially encourage our SIP.js community to come, and anyone who's a WebRTC SIP developer.

This year, ClueCon will be holding a hack-a-thon on the opening Monday before the main part of the conference begins the following day.

Here are three reasons to make it out to ClueCon this year:

  • FreeSWITCH has recently devoted a lot of effort into improving its WebRTC aspects. This includes 1080p video, streaming from Youtube, and native video transcoding. All of this will be on full display throughout ClueCon.
  • If you have any VoIP related ideas that may need some ironing out, there is no better collection of like minded people to discuss them with than the people you will find at ClueCon. There will be all sorts of experts in the field, doing every imaginable thing with VoIP (and probably some things you’d never think of, too).
  • My co-worker, Eric Tamme, is giving a talk on some of our recent FreeSWITCH work involving the distributed nature of our applications. We’ve built an application specifically for this ClueCon talk, so it should be a lot of fun.

If you don't believe me, here's what Kathleen King from FreeSWITCH had to say about the event:

“If you are interested in WebRTC, Voice over IP or Open Source projects like FreeSWITCH, ClueCon is the greatest opportunity you have to gain exposure to the most knowledge and technology in one place,” said ClueCon Social Media Correspondent Kathleen King. “Also, it’s the most fun you can possibly have while still getting a ton of work done! I really look forward to seeing you all there and enjoying the amazing talks, the Epic Annual Kick-Off Pizza Party, The Gigabit Reception and so much more.”

Hope to see you there!
