One thing you have to credit John Oliver for: he goes after some pretty big targets. Last year he did segments calling out/making fun of Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad, and in his season premiere this week he really roasted Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa for debasing himself by publicly shaming his Facebook and Twitter critics.
You read that right, a head of state publicly calling out people who criticize him on Facebook and Twitter. And not on the whole, on an individual, case-by-case basis.
Oliver helped Correa build up his “tolerance for personal abuse” by throwing a lot more insults his way.
Well, obviously the clip made its way to Ecuador, and, lo and behold, Correa responded. On Twitter, of course.

While waiting, some reflections. On the subject of John Oliver: too much noise for such little nuts. These “talk show” gringos are more unfriendly than a diuretic, and “English comedian” is little more than an oxymoron. The “wannabes” plethoric of emotion “taunts” in English. In Latin America, we are proud to have citizens and not subjects. They’re making someone famous who probably thinks the capital of Ecuador is Kuala Lampur. He does not deserve a second of time. A hug to all.
