The body of a Texas college student who disappeared while on spring break has been found, police said.

According to the Austin American Statesman, Jordan Britten, a 20-year-old Central Texas College student who lived in Killeen, was attending the Ultimate Music Experience festival at the Schlitterbahn water park in South Padre Island last week. Friends reported last seeing Britten on Friday at a concert. Britten's mother drove from Killeen to aid in the search for her son, telling reporters it was unusual for him to be out of contact for so long. The search went on for days; volunteers flooded the community with flyers featuring Britten's photo as police continued to investigate his disappearance.

According to KWTX, searchers found Brettin's body on Thursday, in a marshy area in South Padre Island near the water park. Police said they discovered illegal narcotics in Bretten's car, but did not say if they belonged to him.

The Statesman reports that while police are calling the death suspicious, they declined to say if they were investigating the matter as a homicide. An autopsy has been ordered in the case.

In the days leading up to the discovery of his body, the community flooded Bretten's family with support. A Facebook page called "Help Find Jordan Britten" was filled with messages and offers of assistance before Thursday's tragic news broke.

A candlelight service in Bretten's memory is being planned in Copperas Cove, near Killeen.
