Barça star Xavi denies he is on the verge of New York City move

Xavi Hernandez has denied that he's accepted a deal to move to New York City.

Speaking to journalists on Barcelona's flight to Villarreal for their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg, the midfielder said there is no agreement in place.

New York City are the MLS's newest franchise and have the same owners as Premier League side Manchester City.

They have already signed David Villa and Frank Lampard and their sporting director, Claudio Reyna, wouldn't rule out signing Xavi when he spoke last week.

Xavi was linked with moves to America and Qatar last summer, before he eventually decided to stay at Barça after talks with Luis Enrique.

However, the same stories are likely to surface as the season reaches its climax and reports late on Tuesday night suggested the 35-year-old was close to agreeing terms with the New York club

That was denied by Xavi on Wednesday, but the subject of his future is unlikely to disappear.
