BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — After months of considering banning e-cigarettes in public places, the Erie County Legislature has put it to a vote.

The legislature decided Thursday to follow in the path of the City of Buffalo, which passed new regulations on e-cigarettes in early February. The legislature passed the public ban in a 9-1 vote.

E-cigarettes won’t be banned outdoors, they’ll follow the same rules and restrictions normal cigarettes do, namely not indoors and in public places.

The popular smoking device has been both lauded and criticized for its merits in helping smokers quit, but introducing young teens to tobacco products.
