It's not about names or faces and it's certainly not about being a "star" and for those reasons the launch of a new radio station in Wanganui is a step or two away from the ordinary.
Brian fm 91.2 started broadcasting earlier this month from a location in suburban Springvale.
The people behind the radio station do not want to be identified because they say "who we are is not important".
"It's about Brian FM, not a few folks in the background. No fame hunters here, just fans of music making a radio station," a spokesman told the Chronicle.
He said after years of hearing the same songs on radio stations in Wanganui, some mates got together over drinks at the Red Lion and decided to do something about it.
"Think of Brian fm as a collection of music fans who came up with an idea to build a station we would like, because the current list available doesn't excite us.
"The only difference between us thinking of this, to probably thousands of other music fans in Wanganui is we actually did it."
The new station has some simple rules and they include playing what they feel like, will be commercial-free, there will be no announcers, and it will not take listener requests.
Brian fm is on air 24 hours a day, seven days a week and as well as the traditional broadcast form it will also stream online at brianfm.com.
"While we are funded, we're not independently wealthy, and we'd be happy to hear from any local companies who want to be one of our partners, and sponsor an hour of our broadcast every day. We ... will expose an extremely limited few partners each day to cover costs. You will never hear a string of 30-second commercials on Brian fm," he said.
As for the station's music format it will be wide and varied.
