Consistency

Keep a Clear and Consistent Message

Marketing is an essential component to virtually any business succeeding. Marketing has also changed quite a bit in just the past few years. Social media and everything that came with Web 2.0 changed the way people and companies interact and even how some business transactions are made.

Keeping on top of all of the communication channels out there can be a challenge. While you should never go full automation, there are a few ways to stay on top of your marketing message to keep it consistent, relevant, and engaging for your audience.

Let’s look at three ways you can create a consistent message for your community.

Automated Publishing

Some publishers like to log in to their paper each week and use content draft to curate specific stories into their paper before it goes live to their audience. For others though, time is their most important resource.

Paper.li’s publishing control makes it easy to send out notifications to your community without the need to log in each week. When your paper is upgraded to Pro, notification control was turned off by default. If you turned it on, simply visit your Dashboard and click on the Promotions and Emails menu. At the top of this menu is where you can turn it back on.

Bonus: You can still create a custom message which will be sent out when your paper is published.

Content Calendar

This falls under strategy more than automation, but creating a content calendar for three, six, even twelve months can help to keep your message consistent (which is the ultimate goal). Think in terms of campaigns: as you think about your business goals, break them down into smaller subgoals. If you’re looking to increase leads by 10% this quarter, what kinds of messages should you be crafting to reach a larger audience? Focusing on one buyer persona this month and another next month will keep your message continuously changing, fresh, and appearing to more and more individuals.

Use Scheduling Tools

Before we dive into your options here, we wanted to first say that it is our opinion that scheduled posts are great but should never replace human interaction. Schedule your content as a guide, not as a set in stone message.

There are several tools out there. A great starting tool is Hoot Suite, which gives you the option to schedule 3 platforms for free — fantastic for solopreneurs and small businesses.

Another great free tool is Pulse. A wonderful LinkedIn tool, Pulse allows you to select channels based on your interest and expertise and send them to your connections.

Another newer tool we just launched is Juice. Juice takes the work out of curating content for your Twitter community. It allows you to view trending stories, see how popular the story is not only with other content creators but also with your audience too and then share it with them. Currently available in the iOS app store — give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments!

Consistent, creative content is the best way to grow (and keep) your community. Think about what they care about, what problems they have, and how you can be the solution to those problems.
