It's better than watching it dry! LA artist's 'relaxing' videos of PAINT being mixed take social media by storm, amassing thousands of views from fans around the world

You might think there could be nothing more boring than watching paint dry, however a series of videos showing paints being mixed is captivating viewers online. 

Artist Iris Nan records as she gently blends the colors on her palette with a knife, before scraping them off again.

The videos, which are short and simple, then proceed to loop for the entire experience to be repeated once again on Instagram.

It makes for a deeply relaxing and almost hypnotic experience for those who decide to watch the short clips which are posted regularly to her account that has more than 31,000 followers.

Sometimes the videos begin with various splodges of colored paints on the palette. As they're blended together, new colors are created before being scraped away.

On one occasion, a brush is used to gently coat a canvass with grey paint.

The process at one appears to be deeply satisfying as it is cathartic. 

Iris told Daily Mail Online: ''My favorite moment in these videos is when you see the colors becoming one. It's a fast and almost magical transition.

'It all started when I began taking painting classes in college in November last year. I always felt fascinated by how the colors mixed with oil paints. Filming it helped me remember how to make the same color again for the next class session.

The comments on her videos range from 'this is so calming to watch' to 'More pleaaase it's so therapeutic and amazing'. Another wrote, 'can spend hours watching her mixing paint vids' while a couple of other commentators said, 'this is so hypnotising' and 'this is oddly satisfying.'

There is a scientific reason as to why watching the videos 'feels good' and it is supposedly because of an autonomous sensory meridian response or ASMR.

ASMR occurs when certain noises send a euphoric tingle down your scalp and spine making you feel good

The often banal images can cause relaxation, giddiness or even a sort of hypnotic trance encouraging viewers to continue to watch.

'I really love mixing different shades of mauve and toning blue down with orange or brown,' Iris says.

'The colors don't always come out the way I expect them to, but that is what makes mixing fun!'
