Solar-powered cats create furry feline sundial

A time-lapse video focuses on a room filled with cats, all of whom are determined to sleep in a narrow sunbeam as it moves across the floor.

Saturday is commonly known on the internet as “Caturday” to recognise it as the one day each week when warring factions lay down their angry words for 24 hours to share stories, pictures and videos of their cats and other pets. Some blog writers and scientists (like me) have adapted “Caturday” for sharing stories, photos and videos of their favourite animals. But today’s video is a return to the grand tradition that originally gave rise to “Caturday”.

This amusing time-lapse video by Mitsuru Yasui focuses on a room filled with cats, all of whom are determined to sleep in a narrow sunbeam streaming through a partially curtained window as it moves across the floor during the day. As a result, they create a furry line across the floor that moves as the sunbeam moves.

Eagle-eyed observers may have noticed that one pair of cats did take a short break from their scientific work for a brief procreation attempt (0:51).
