Link response to EU Referendum result

24 June 2016

Dr Elaine King, Director of Wildlife and Countryside Link, responds to the EU Referendum result:

'Following the EU Referendum result, we now need to ensure the environment is at the heart of policy and decision making so that, as a nation, we can defend nature for future generations. The protection afforded by legislation like the EU Habitats and Birds Directives - which have been the foundation of nature across Europe for over 30 years – will need to continue, with new measures urgently put in place to safeguard our environment.’

‘Link will continue to work with our member organisations to secure positive outcomes for the natural environment. In recent weeks our members have been outlining their views of what the Government must focus on in its proposed 25 Year plans for the environment and for food and farming. Ministers must now listen to and act on measures called for by the joint voice of the environment sector’.
