Walthamstow Supporter Meetup: Take Action Against Surveillance

** Read this before attending the event - this event is for those living in the Walthamstow constituency (http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/) with the MP Stella Creasy**

Hi everyone,

ORG London member Tracy wants to build up a team of digital rights enthusiasts in Walthamstow to campaign against surveillance with! The focus is surveillance for now but if you are interested in copyright, Internet filters or any other issues you are still welcome.

The group will be supported by ORG's Local Groups Co-ordinator (me) during the meeting so don't worry about how much you know about activism, I've got plenty of tips and tricks to share.

We are starting with a first group meeting where everyone can introduce themselves, discuss concerns over surveillance and make plans to meet their MP, Stella Creasy.

The aim is to meet with Stella Creasy in October after the leadership election results are in the dust has settled a bit. If you just want to share ideas and not meet your MP then that's great too.

Agenda

6.30 - 6.45pm: Introductions and opening discussion about digital rights concerns (e.g. copyright, internet filters and surveillance)

6.45 - 7.00pm: Briefing on Snoopers' Charter from ORG' Local Groups Co-ordinator

7.00 - 7.30pm: Campaign Plan and Strategy

Divide into smaller groups to discuss how we can campaign locally on the issues including: individuals and organisations to target, events/ campaign actions to organise and other community groups to link up with. Feedback to the rest of the group.

7.30 - 8.00pm: Meeting Stella Creasy MP

In smaller groups plan what we could say in a meeting with our MP and the key arguments we would use. How would you counter her concerns over protecting national security?

In each group, assign someone who will arrange the meeting.

Then feedback to the rest of the group.

8pm: End of Meeting/ post-meeting drink in the pub!
