On 24th April 2013 my son Sam died of a catastrophic brain haemorrhage.  He was 20 months old.  I had fought tirelessly in the family courts to protect my son but to no avail.  His mother, from whom I was separated, abused alcohol and had been violent towards me but the judge in the case failed to properly investigate this. Days after my sons passing Deanna Buffham and her partner Ryan Bate were arrested for his murder.  Sam had suffered a violent attack, he had been pushed or thrown at a surface with a force equivalent to that of a 60mph car crash.  'Operation Federation'  the complex 18 month investigation into my sons murder was undertaken by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.  The investigation proved unsuccessful and in November 2014 was drawn to a close. The fatal injury was inflicted upon Sam prior to 9am on the 21st April 2013, at a point where either of the suspects could have been left alone with Sam.  Both parties continue to conceal the events leading up to Sams death and have gone to inhumane lengths to do so.  The Crown Prosecution Service will not allow both to be charged and the police remain unable to determine which of the pair is guilty.   Both Deanna Buffham and Ryan Bate remain free to walk our streets.  One has committed a crime of the most horrific magnitude the other continues to protect them, both walk free. No criminal record, no electronic tag, no license conditions. Both are free to move next door to you, sit in the park in which your children play or maybe even work at their nursery. 52 children are killed in Britain every year at the hands of their parents, the circumstances surrounding Sams death are by no means an exception. I propose that it is in the interests of the public that the loophole that has allowed both suspects to lie and evade prosecution be investigated and closed. I propose that it is in the interests of the public that both parties are treated as a significant threat to the welfare of children until such a time that evidence proves the contrary in favor of either party. I propose it to be in the interests of the public in similar circumstances of child homiciode, that any suspects known to be complicit in the misleading of the investigation, should be treated as a significant threat to the welfare of children.
