Rubio: Hillary brings ‘yesterday’s ideas’

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Friday panned Hillary Clinton’s economic policies as “yesterday’s ideas,” hitting out at a 2016 rival.

“The problem with Hillary Clinton’s ideas is that they play by the rules of yesterday’s economy,” Rubio said in a video aired at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in Oklahoma City.

“She seems to believe that the reason yesterday’s ideas are failing is not because they’re outdated or broken, but because we aren’t spending enough money on them.”

{mosads}Rubio, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, said that he would push for a “growing economy” instead of a “growing government” if he wins next year.

“I believe that instead of pumping today’s money into yesterday’s ideas, we should create policies for today that reflect the extraordinary ideas of tomorrow,” he continued.

Rubio told the conservative crowd that a free market was the best way to ensure prosperity.

“The American dream is about one thing more than any other — it’s about giving your children the chance to do the things you could not do, go to the places you could not go and open the doors that were closed to you,” he said.

The Florida lawmaker also called the 2016 election one of “generational importance.”

“If we acknowledge that family, not government, is the most important institution in society, that what happens in your house, and my house, can be every bit as important as what happens in the White House, then we will be on our way to a new American century,” Rubio said.

“This election will determine whether we run towards our past or whether we run towards our future,” he added.

Rubio announced his 2016 campaign on April 13 in Miami.
