In a Twitter conversation amongst several filmmakers and writers spotted by Slash Film, it was revealed that figures such as Spielberg, Gary Whitta, and Seth Rogen were unsuccessful in getting the remake rights the 1980s flick.
"Spielberg himself told me he couldn't get the rights after I told him how long I'd tried," Rogen tweeted.
Other tweets in the conversation suggest that the film's writer, Jonathan R. Betuel, retains the rights to all Last Starfighter remakes and sequels, and refuses to budge on the matter.Spielberg, Rogen, Whitta, and friends are not the only ones who would love a remake of the Last Starfighter; even IGN's editors have discussed the topic in our Keepin' It Reel podcast (above). Do you think we'll ever see a remake? Katie Williams is a freelance writer and games journalist. She tweets at @desensitisation and hopes that one day, a bird will tweet back.
