With the eight edition of the marquee Indian Premier League all but around the corner, how can we forget some amazing facts and trivia about the annual T-20 extravaganza, which has captured fan imagination over the years.

From Rajasthan Royal's dream win in the inaugural 2008 edition to Kolkata Knight Riders' thrill-a-minute glory ride last season (2014), the IPL has never ceased to impress hordes of cricket lovers in the country.

So as an entire nation waits in anticipation post the World Cup buzz, here are some quick tidbits on the history of the IPL.

 

1) Three- Deccan Chargers (2008 champions), Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers India are the three teams who are defunct and won't compete in IPL 8.

2) IPL 2010 (won by Chennai Super Kings) was the first edition to be broadcast live on You Tube.

3) Four - Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the four teams who have not won the tournament as of yet.

4) Two - Chennai (2010,2011) and Kolkata Knight Riders (2012, 2014) are locked on the most number of title wins.

5) Ten - The 2011 edition consisted of ten teams in all, the most in IPL history.

6) 50 -50: Chennai and Mumbai Indians have a heated rivalry in IPL, with both teams having a 10-10 win-lose record over the years.

7) With 3325 runs, Suresh Raina leads the run charts in IPL overall.

8)  Chris Gayle's amazing unbeaten 175 against Pune in 2013 is the highest score by a batsman till date.

9) Quite predictably, Gayle also tops the six hitting chart with 192 hits over the fence.

10) Lasith Malinga's 119 wickets, makes him the leading wicket taker in IPL history.

11) Sohail Tanvir's 6 for 14 against Chennai in 2008, remains the best ever bowling performance.

12) Thirteen players have recorded hat-tricks in IPL history so far.
