Lily Allen has always spoken her mind, but her latest musings may not go down too well with her fellow singers and musicians after she branded the Band Aid 30 project “a bit smug.”
“I got an email asking me to do it. It’s difficult to explain why I didn’t do it without sounding like a complete ****,” said Allen in an interview with the Mail on Sunday’s Event Magazine.
“I prefer to do my charitable bit by donating actual money and not being lumped in a with a bunch of people like that,” she said, adding: “It’s like the success club, and I’m not really in that club. I don’t think I’m above it all — I’m way below it. But there’s something a bit smug about it.”

Initiated by Bob Geldof, Band Aid 30 brought together a host of U.K. music acts, including One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, to record a new version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” with all sales from the single going toward efforts to combat Ebola.
Despite her own issues with the project, and perhaps mindful not to burn all her bridges, Allen did praise Geldof. “I actually don’t mind Sir Bob. He doesn’t give a ****, and he’s grumpy like me,” she said.
The fourth version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” has become the fastest-selling single in the U.K. this year.
