TERRYTOWN, La. (WGNO)  – A woman was killed and a man critically injured during a shooting in Terrytown Tuesday night.

Police say they received numerous reports of gunshots near the 2100 block of Esplanade Place in Terrytown around 10:30 p.m.

Minutes later a clerk at Brothers Food Mart called to report a man lying on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds.  He was taken to University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Police have identified the man as Charles Gumms, 20, of Terrytown.

The clerk told police Gumms got out of his silver car and walked into the grocery where he collapsed.

After investigating the car, police found an 18-year-old woman in the backseat. She had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified her as Shamyra Plummer of Marrero.

Homicide investigators say both victims were shot while in the 2100 block of Esplanade Place just prior to arriving at the Food Mart.

Crime Scene Technicians recovered a number of various caliber spent shell casings scattered in the street on Esplanade Place.
