Description
This surreal work is my statement
on endangered wild animals.
There are five species of rhinos,
living in Africa and Asia, and all
of them are endangered.
Two main reasons are the habitat
loss of rhinos and the aggressive
poaching because of their horns.
International trade in rhino horn is
banned under CITES since 1977 -
yet merely in South Africa the
poaching has been increasing
enormously: 3000 % during the
last five years!
Where do all the horns go?
To Asia, where they regard horns
as status symbols. Horns are
used for "medical" purposes, too
- for instance in Vietnam horns
are used as a hangover cure!
There are approximately 3700
black rhinos in Africa and 2400
Indian rhinos in Asia; the situation
of these two species is much better
than the ones of white, Javan and
Sumatran rhinos. African white rhinos
divide into two subspecies, and
the northern one is extremely
endangered with only a few rhinos
remaining. Javan rhinos are probably
the rarest of all big mammals with
the amount of 60 animals. Sumatran
rhinos - the smallest rhinos of all -
are less than 300.
This work is a great gift for all wildlife
lovers and for those who wish to influence.
Worth considering!
