The producers of "Jekyll & Hyde," the pop rock musical based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of a brilliant scientist and his malevolent alter ego, have canceled its Saturday performances at the Topeka Performance Arts Center, 214 S.E. 8th, the venue announced Thursday.

Citing “unforeseen tour circumstances,” the producers of a national tour of the musical thriller “Jekyll & Hyde” have canceled its stop Saturday night at the Topeka Performing Arts Center, TPAC announced Thursday morning.

The producers offered alternate dates later in the tour, but none fit TPAC’s schedule because of previous commitments, the announcement said.

“We are very disappointed that the exciting new musical ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ will not be coming to Topeka this season,” said Karen Christilles, executive director of TPAC, which is managed by Ames, Iowa-based VenuWorks. “We encourage our patrons to take advantage of our other fabulous upcoming events.”

Those coming attractions include two other touring musicals, “Menopause, The Musical” on Feb. 21, and “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Musical” on March 26, and two concerts, singer-songwriter Don Williams on Feb. 26 and a cappella group Straight No Chaser on April 8.

All holders of tickets to “Jekyll & Hyde” will be offered a full refund through their point of purchase. Those who bought tickets through Ticketmaster by telephone or over the Internet will be automatically credited and notified by the ticket agency.

Ticket buyers who made their purchases at the box office of TPAC, 214 S.E. 8th, can obtain a full refund between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays. Ticket holders also have the option of exchanging their ticket for one to “Menopause, The Musical” or “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.”

They also may have the value of the ticket made a charitable donation to the Topeka Performing Arts Center’s Arts Education Program for Youth and receive a donation letter and recognition in the 2015 Young Artist Award program.
