An eighth ‘Harry Potter' book is coming in July, and it's already No. 1 on sales charts

Update: A day after being announced,  Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is already at the top of books sales charts at retailers like Amazon.

Original story: After years of fans demanding more adventures from the Wizarding World, J.K. Rowling's eight Harry Potter story is almost here -- as a play. But if you can't make it to London's West End, seeing it any time soon is going to be pretty difficult.

Thankfully, there's a compromise coming. The script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is going to be published in book form right after the play debuts on stage. It will hit bookshelves on July 31 (right at 12:01 a.m., if you wanna prepare for a midnight release now).

Here in the U.S. it's being published in hardcover by Scholastic for $29.99. According to Pottermore, this "Special Rehearsal Edition" of the script book will be based on the play's script as it stands on July 31. It will be replaced by a "Definitive Collector's Edition" at a later date, with more details on that to come.

The story of The Cursed Child picks up immediately after the epilogue scene in the last Harry Potter book, The Dealthy Hallows. It's an all-new story from Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, told in two parts due to the "epic nature of the story."

The story's description, from Scholastic:

"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places."

Another new story set in the Harry Potter universe, the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, hits theaters November 18.
