National fitness chain may be lured to State Line Road location

National fitness chain may be lured to State Line Road location
The former Hy-Vee store in Leawood may soon have a new life.Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn said discussions are underway to develop the space near 123rd Street and State Line Road into a health club and store.Developers are said to be in discussion with a national fitness chain to come up with new plans for the site."We now have the property under contract with a development company that will likely use the space to house a nationally recognized health club and one or more retail tenants," Hy-Vee said in a statement. "The developer’s due diligence period is currently underway. Like the residents of Leawood, we look forward to the property’s successful redevelopment."Hy-Vee closed the store last summer after being unable to reach an agreement with Leawood on incentives for remodeling. Hy-Vee also considered moving to another location before dropping those plans during a rezoning dispute.
