Shades of Tomato

I thought I'd let you peek into our greenhouse.  Compared to last year, our tomatoes are thriving, but everything else has been either been neglected or lost our to the voracious appetite of the butterflies and dastard snails and slugs.
As you can see, we have loads of tomatoes still growing.
Loads still ripening.
Loads to eat.
Okay now onto my little harvest for Harvest Monday, other than the many tomatoes.
The green stripey courgettes have been a bit slow.  I've used them in a few recipes, but one recipe that has got me all excited has been baked courgette - zucchini fries aka chips, I will share the recipe later this week.  I also harvested my second golden courgette.  I have to show it off in all its glory as I am not that confident of many others being harvested, as the horrid slugs are beating me to them.
On Saturday when the rain stayed off, we pottered in the garden for a while.  I harvested some plums, as you can see our tree is burgeoning.
I picked one plum that was rather splendid.  I dubbed it as Plum Bum, click the link if you haven't yet seen it.
Some plum were given to neighbours, these are for my family when I go over tomorrow for a cuppa tea. And of course, we will enjoy many in the sweet bakes, cakes and crumbles.
The blueberry plant has been rewarding me with berries on and off, a handful in fact.  Not enough for a pie, but great scattered over cereals or yogurt.
My runner beans and other climbing french beans are not worth shouting about either, but we have some that have been serving as an accompaniment to simple meals rather than playing a starring role.
I think our neighbour pitied us somewhat as he came on over Saturday afternoon and gifted us with some of his runner beans.  He even chopped them up for us.  I am sharing this harvest with Daphne's Dandelions for Harvest Monday.

  1. I'm glad to hear that your tomatoes are better this year. I expect the greenhouse has been earning its keep, because the weather has not really been conducive to the production of good tomatoes!

  2. D has been very attentive with the greenhouse this year and not repeated some mistakes from last year, so we are being rewarded with tomatoes this year. Your right about the weather. We stuck two courgettes in the greenhouse too, although they are growing well, not courgettes - the bees like hanging outside.

  3. Lovely produce! I love the smell of tomatoes growing in greenhouses, takes me back to my Grandpas greenhouse when I was young, nothing beats it! One day I will have my own, until then, I will admire yours!

  4. Thanks. I was like you - time will reward you will a place to grow your own.
Our growing antics have been a bit hit and miss since we moved to Wales from Scotland, hopefully the love will come back, but we are pleased with the tommy-tatoes

  5. Beautiful tomatoes - they are such a treat right now. Lucky you to have a neighbor that both grows beans and is generous with them! That Plum Bum is so funny! Every once in a while you come across a fruit or veg that just makes you burst our laughing - you should have seen the eggplant I harvested at the farm last week. Depending on your view, you either say a head with a nose or something else entirely... ;)

    1. Thank you so much Margaret, we are trying to enjoy them as they are - fresh and in salads. Yes, we are lucky with our neighbours. I would love to have seen you aubergine.

  6. Lovely harvests. Those plums look so good. Though I wish I had some of my own, I shouldn't complain as I have apples and melons.

    1. We could have swapped, I have no apples - but I know somewhere where I can forage for some, as for melons - no melons around here.

  7. Good looking tomatoes. Greenhouses can be such terrific places for pests to get out of hand, it looks like you've got that under control. What a lovely neighbor - ready to cook beans delivered!

    1. Thank you Michelle. my husband has been really attentive with the greenhouse this year, its the outside garden that is being ravaged by pests. Agree, we do have some nice neighbours.

    1. Fingers crossed you have some ripe tomatoes, we have been picking them every day - fortunately, but struggling to eat them. So lots of side salads
