A Fox News poll released Monday found that a plurality of registered voters support legalizing same sex marriage.

Forty-eight percent of those surveyed said they support legalizing same-sex marriage while 44 percent said they oppose legalizing same-sex marriage, the poll found. That finding is a slight increase from October 2014 when Fox News found voters split evenly at 45 percent.

The last time the Fox poll found a higher approval number for same-sex marriage was in March 2013. That poll found 49 percent favored legalizing same-sex marriage while 46 said they opposed legalizing same-sex marriage.

The poll’s findings come a day before the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in a case concerning same-sex marriage. It also comes after a weekend in which a number of likely and declared 2016 Republican presidential candidates strongly expressed their support for religious freedom laws that critics say essentially legalize discrimination against gay and lesbian couples.

The poll was conducted by Anderson Robbins Research and Shaw & Company Research from April 19 to April 21 among 1012 registered voters.
