NORWICH — Friday's heavy, wet snow has cut power to nearly 30,000 Eversource customers and 75 Norwich Public Utilities users.

As of 11:30 a.m., 75 NPU customers on North Cliff Street, Otrobando Avenue and Corning and Scotland roads were without power.

"Our preliminary indications are that this morning’s heavy, wet snow has caused tree limbs to come down onto our wires in a few locations. We also have a report of some damaged equipment on our system," NPU spokesman Chris Riley said in an email update to reporters.  Our first priority is to make our system safe – for our customers and our employees. Once a location is safe, our crews begin the restoration process. It is too soon to provide estimated times for restoration."

More than half of Windham customers have lost power, according to Eversource, with 5,501 of 10,257 users out - or 54 percent. That's the highest of any town served by the state's largest electricity provider. A third of Killngly customers are down - just more than 3,000 - and 65 percent of Sprague is out.
