NEW DELHI: The CBI, which believes that former media baron Peter Mukerjea has misled it for two weeks now, is hoping that he will shed light on the conspiracy to kill Sheena Bora in 2012 after he undergoes a vital lie-detector test in the next few days.
CBI got the permission to conduct a lie detection test on Mukherjea—alleged to be part of the murder conspiracy—on Friday from a special court in Delhi.

Experts said he would be asked a set of questions related to his finances, Indrani Mukerjea’s relation with Sheena, the circumstances leading to the murder, his son Rahul Mukerjea’s conversations with him and other facts.
The person undergoing the lie-detection test has to reply to questions with “yes” or “no”; his or her blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates and skin activity suggest if the person is lying or not.

While the scientific test, used commonly for interrogation by CBI in many high-profile cases where the accused/suspect is not cooperating, is not admissible in court, it helps in creating a chain of events and establishing whether statements made by the person are correct or not.

The CBI has to produce Mukerjea on Monday before a special court in Mumbai which has given the agency his custody.
CBI sources said Mukerjea was quizzed on Friday at CBI headquarters for nearly six hours with the questioning focused on whether funds allegedly siphoned off from the media house founded by him and Indrani were parked in an overseas account of Sheena Bora and whether this resulted in a dispute between Indrani and her daughter.
Sources added that CBI confronted Peter with the income tax returns filed by him and Indrani to ascertain their various investments in India and abroad.
The financial dispute is turning out to be one of the possible concrete motives for the murder of the 24-year-old daughter of Indrani Mukerjea from her first marriage.
The CBI is working on different angles which might have led to the crime.
While seeking custody of Peter from the Mumbai special court, CBI had claimed on Thursday that he has told the agency that accounts might have been opened in the name of Sheena by Indrani in banks in Hong Kong and Singapore.
According to the CBI, the couple’s company 9X Media Pvt Ltd carried out its internal audit in which nine companies having shareholding as on March 2009 were found to have instances of misallocation and siphoning of substantial amounts of funds by Peter and Indrani.
The CBI, represented by additional solicitor general Anil Singh, also told the court that the “money siphoned off from INX (in which Peter and Indrani were partners) dealings was routed to Sheena Bora’s HSBC account in Singapore”.
The reports of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office and income tax department and documents of chartered accountants substantiate the above facts, the CBI said while seeking Mukerjea’s remand.
