The title card for Avengers: Age of Ultron comes up twelve minutes into the movie. Against a black screen, the Avengers logo takes up almost the entire screen. You might expect a triumphant, heroic piece of music to accompany it---that's what composer Brian Tyler expected. But director Joss Whedon wanted something darker to reflect a villain who, at that point in the film, has yet to show up on screen, but will be an aberration of Tony Stark's best intentions and hopes to save the world. In this episode of Song Exploder, Brian Tyler tells the story of how he scored that moment, breaking down the sections of the 90-piece orchestra he conducted at Abbey Road Studios.
