Why this petition matters

Started by Ashleigh Hancock

It's not new news that Medway council have served many noise nuisance notices to our live music venues in the last couple of years.

RAFA was an important venue for Medway's music scene, without it our local musicians, such as Jamie Johnson from The Voice, would not have explored their musical potential. Our youth have only three venues open for shows, one of which is set to close its doors in the coming months and another is on a busy main road in the center of Gillingham. With the coming closure, this means that many of our teenagers will have nowhere to go to explore their musical talents and to release their energy like they do at live shows. Rafa is a prime venue as it is away from built up areas, has a secluded car park and is a safe environment where live music does not affect any of our community in a negative way.

I've attached a video of a band that have gone far since their Rafa days.

We would like RAFA to open its doors again and welcome back Medway's dying music scene.
