The county contracts with the city of Santa Clarita for transit service in the non-city parts of the SCV such as Stevenson Ranch, Castaic and Val Verde.

The entire Santa Clarita Transit budget for fiscal year 2015-16 is $29.8 million, according to a county report. The county’s share is about $5.4 million, but just $2.4 million was up for approval Tuesday. The other $3 million comes through various state and federal grant funding sources pursued by the city of Santa Clarita.

Santa Clarita Transit has been around since 1992 and currently includes 7-day-per-week local bus services, a 5-day-per-week commuter bus service and specialized 7-day-per-week service for elderly and disabled persons.
