Conor McGregor willing to fight Urijah Faber in Dublin prior to UFC 194 showdown against Jose Aldo

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Be it contestant or coach, participating in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) combat sports reality show can turn you psycho (just ask this veteran). But I would imagine that having a fight to prepare for at the end of the season would at least make it tolerable.

A luxury not afforded to TUF 22 trainer Conor McGregor.

That's because Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) paired the interim featherweight champion against fellow coach Urijah Faber, who is unranked in his old weight class. "The California Kid" temporarily moved up from bantamweight to prove he's still got the goods at 145 pounds, but got shut out by Frankie Edgar last May in the Philippines.

As a result, McGregor is just there for the FOX Sports 1 ratings and will move on to fight Jose Aldo in December (details).

"Really, it would be nice to have a fight at the end of it," a disappointed McGregor told The 42. "We could easily fit a fight in on the Dublin card in October. I could go in and make light work of Urijah, I could maul him inside one [round] and be fresh. And then we could do the Jose [Aldo] fight towards the end of the year."

Such is the price of fame.

The promotion will head to Dublin -- a place that is "Notorious" for being shut down -- with UFC Fight Night 76 in October (more on that card here). But seeing as how McGregor is one of the biggest draws in mixed martial arts (MMA), the powers-that-be won't be wasting his star power on UFC Fight Pass.

Too bad, as we'll never get to find out who was truly "manhandled."

As for the next season of TUF, McGregor admitted he "didn't want to do it," but later embraced his role as coach after accepting "the life he chose." I'm sure being around 16 hungry lightweight and welterweight hopefuls -- banging it put for a chance of a lifetime -- may have played an important role.
