UFC refutes Georges St. Pierre's press conference story, blames doctors for 'Sin City' chaos

Hey, remember when Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) insisted that former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was full of bologna? Well, it turns out ex-welterweight titleholder Georges St. Pierre likes to tell his share of tall tales, as well.

That's according to the mysterious UFC "official" who continues to keep his shield up.

St. Pierre was a recent guest on The MMA Hour and discussed his final fight inside the Octagon: a controversial split-decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in Las Vegas. Following their five-round affair, "Rush" claims he was barred from attending the post-fight press conference (full report here).

"I didn't know something bad was going on until they say 'you're not allowed to go to the press conference,'" St. Pierre said. "I found that it was kind of weird, I was waiting in the locker room a long time, it was like, that was kind of weird. It wasn't until afterwards that I realized what was going on."

The brazen belt-nappers UFC retorts:

A UFC official told MMA Fighting that UFC did not prevent St. Pierre from attending the UFC 167 post-fight press conference, but rather the organization was informed that doctors had advised St. Pierre and UFC officials that he be taken to the hospital immediately for precautionary purposes. The official said that St. Pierre declined to be transported immediately, instead preferring to attend the press conference.

St. Pierre announced his departure from UFC not long after the fight.

Whether or not he ever comes back remains to be seen. There are still several hurdles to clear (like this one), as the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) has changed dramatically since "Rush" last laced up the gloves. So too, has the upper echelon of the 170-pound division.

Which could crown a new king on Jan. 2.
