Remember Yair Rodriguez's badly injured foot? 'TUF' winner has an update

SEOUL – After his UFC 192 win over Daniel Hooker, Yair Rodriguez looked as though he might be facing some significant time on the shelf due to a foot injury.

Rodriguez’s (6-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) foot ballooned up during the fight, but the featherweight winner of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America” insisted at the post-fight press conference that it was not due to a broken bone (via Twitter):

Almost two months removed from that bout and while in attendance this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 79 in South Korea, 23-year-old Rodriguez told MMAjunkie he’s ready to start a training camp as soon as this week.

“My foot is feeling good,” Rodriguez said. “I’ve been working on it every day since my injury. I think it’s healed to almost 100 percent. I’ve been training a little bit. I want to start my training camp next week. Lets see what the bosses say, and I hope to be ready for the next fight.”

While Rodriguez is ready to start a fight camp, that doesn’t mean he has a date or opponent lined up for his next bout.

“I say I’m going to start my training camp because I’m always in training camp,” Rodriguez said. “I’m in training camp every day. No, I don’t have dates or opponents yet. I’m just trying to get ready for my next fight. Sometimes it’s short notice, I want to be ready if that happens.”
