The death of nail technician Kylie Platt will be sure to rock the famous Coronation Street cobbles for a long time to come.

The shockingly sudden demise of the popular character has been described by actress Paula Lane as one of the most shocking deaths in Corrie history - and co-star Jack P Shepherd cried real tears when he filmed the scenes.

But Kylie’s final farewell is the latest in a long line of deaths to shake the Street.

Who can forget the iconic moment dastardly Alan Bradley was hit by a Blackpool tram, watched by 26 million viewers back in 1989, or the horror of Tommy Harris being murdered by his own daughter ‘Killer Katy’ and ‘Norman Bates with a Briefcase’ Richard Hillman bludgeoning poor Maxine Peacock to death in her own home.

The nation reached for their tissues when the much-loved character Hayley Cropper took her own life after battling cancer. And we gasped when Tina McIntyre was battered with a metal pipe by Rob Donovan after being pushed from a balcony.

The nation gasped when the feisty barmaid played by Michelle Keegan was pushed from the building yard balcony by nasty Rob Donovan, after she found out that he and Tracy Barlow were selling illegal stock.

But there was a double shock when Tina turned out to be alive - and Rob silenced her by picking up a metal pipe and repeatedly beat her with it.

Tina later suffered a heart attack and attempts to resuscitate her in hospital failed.

Alan drove his ex-partner Rita to Blackpool following a campaing of harassment. and after tracking her down he famously met his end after being hit and killed by a Blackpool tram while chasing a distressed Rita across the tracks.

Friendly butcher Ashley was killed in the dramatic live tram crash scenes of 2010 to mark the soap’s 50th anniversary.

After being buried in the debris of the Joinery Bar with Peter Barlow and bar manager Nick Tilsley, he left a heartbreaking message on his wife Claire’s phone telling her that he loved her before saving his friends.

The roof then gave way and poor Ashley was crushed to death. A grief-stricken Claire later listened to the poignant voicemail that Ashley left her while he was trapped.

Molly Dobbs

Young mum Molly was also killed by the tram crash. When she realised she was dying she confessed to her neighbour Sally that she hasd been having an affair with her husband Kevin. Shocker.

Maxine Peacock

Bubbly Maxine Peacock was slaughtered by Gail’s husband Richard Hillman. Hillman had originally planned to kill elderly Emily Bishop while she was babysitting for Maxine and Ashley.

But when Maxine returned home alone early from her mum’s birthday celebrations she was hit several times with a crowbar. You should have stayed at the party Maxine.

Tommy Harris

Disgusted by his daughter Katy’s relationship with older man Martin Platt, Tommy made up a story that he was having an affair to persuade her to have an abortion.

When she found out the truth she lashed out and hit him with a wrench.

Katy took her own life after she could no longer cope with the guilt of murdering her own father.

She drank water mixed with sugar, a which was deadly becausee of her diabetes, and was found unconscious by Martin. She died shortly after her arrival at Weatherfield General.

When girlfriend Tracy found out about his affair with Maria she went after revenge.

After performing a lap dance for him, she hit him around the head with a heavy statue ornament.

Tracy claimed she’d killed him in self-defense and was given a life sentence. She was later found not guilty at the retrial, owing to the unreliability of forensic evidence.

Deirdre Barlow
