This is the moment a quick-thinking schoolboy saved a dog’s life after spotting it dangling from a car window by its lead.

Bradley North, 13, was walking home from school along Milton Road, Prestwich, when he noticed smashed glass and a broken van window.

He watched in horror as the dog leapt from the window while being tied to a lead, causing it to become strangled and pass out.

Bradley, a student at Parrenthorn High School, rushed to help the brown Dogue de Bordeaux without any fear for it’s large size.

He managed to unhook the dog, named Boo, from the lead and gently stroked it to revive the animal.

The teenager and his schoolfriends waited for 15 minutes until the grateful owner returned to the van.

Bradley told the M.E.N: “I was walking down the street on the way home from school and we saw a dog with its paws hanging out of the window.

“As I got closer I saw some smashed glass near the front window.

“Suddenly the dog jumped out and was pretty much hanging itself.”

He added: “I have dogs myself, I would hope someone would do that for me and help my dog. I was a bit scared, but as long as the dog was ok.”

Bradley’s dad, Kevin North, 38, said his son is an active member of the scouts and described him as “my little hero.”

He said: “We have dogs ourselves and he is a very caring lad.”

More than 3,000 people have praised Bradley after images of his quick-thinking actions were shared on Facebook by passer-by Alenka Kilmas.

Claire Simpson commented: “An amazing lad! Well done, lots of people simply walk on by and don’t get involved. Thank you for helping the dog you probably saved his life.”

Gemma Moule wrote: “That was a brave and courageous thing to do! Dogue De Bordeaux’s are big dogs, albeit gentle giants, but under the circumstances, you thought only of saving the dog’s life.”
