This dramatic video shows the moment fire crews helped push a car to safety after it became stuck in flood water.

The team were called to Crossley Road, Heaton Chapel, just before midnight after the vehicle could no longer make it up the flooded road.

In the clip four firefighters can be seen pushing the car up the carriageway in ankle deep water.

Two people inside the car were pulled to safety by fire crews beforehand.

It is understood they did not require any hospital treatment.

The technical unit and major rescue unit from Ashton-under-Lyne attended the scene, alongside the water unit and crews from Whitehall and Stockport fire stations.

Police and Highways England taped off the road to oncoming traffic while the rescue was underway.

The road, located underneath a railway bridge, is notorious for flooding.

It became flooded when a violent thunderstorm hit Greater Manchester, causing houses to shake and car alarms to sound.

In Rochdale families were evacuated from their homes and an engineering plant was evacuated after flash floods.

Firefighters were called to Turf Hill Road at about 7pm, where four properties were flooded.

Gary Weight, watch commander at Rochdale Fire Station, said: “We pumped out the properties and had to evacuate three of the properties while we isolated the electrics.

“We had to rehouse a couple of them for the night.”

Night shift staff at Renold Gears, in Milnrow, were also sent home while firefighters isolated the electrics at the plant.
