This is the moment a Levenshulme resident deals with a littering taxi driver - by posting the rubbish back through his car window.

Eagle-eyed resident Bobby Michael spotted the worker chucking a juice bottle out of his vehicle’s door on Friday morning.

Angry Bobby, 46, then filmed the moment that he confronts the driver – who has his car parked on the side of the street – about his behaviour.

In a brilliantly Mancunian manner Bobby hands the bottle back to the stunned driver, and says: “Excuse me brother, we live here mate.

“It would be nice if you wouldn’t do that, our kid. We have little kids running around here and if someone slips on it they’re going to get hurt.

“Yeah, you’re welcome.”

After the incident, which happened just by Bobby’s house on Mayford Drive, he posted the footage on Facebook, saying: “Saw this taxi driver throw his juice bottle out of the car. Not a care in the world. Drives me nuts.”

Bobby has a visually impaired son and said that he was worried that he could have slipped and fallen on the discarded bottle after getting off his bus, which drops him off close to the spot the litter bug was parked up in.

He said: “He could have slipped on it and been hurt. Just gets my goat. I’m sure the driver is a lovely chap and just lacked a little common sense at that moment.

“We can all live in a dump, or we can live together in a nice clean community. I think we’d all prefer the latter.”

Pauline Johnston, who organises local litter picks and runs community website Love Levenshulme, said that the area has a problem with businesses and traders who drop their litter.

She said that Amber Cars – who the driver works for – should not be singled out as a business that is responsible for those problems.

She added: “It’s clear that the message is not getting through to some of the small local businesses and their employees that Levenshulme residents and good traders do not want litter on our high street or flytipping in the alleys.

“This video highlights that residents are not prepared to sit back and let the area become a tip. It also shows the need for greater education about littering in Manchester and more enforcement by the council to the culprits who choose to disrespect our suburbs.”

But after seeing the footage Amber Qadeer, who runs Amber cars, said that it was an isolated incident and their employees were always told to respect the community they work in.

She said: “We would just like to say at Amber Cars we do not at all condone this behaviour. We would like to sincerely apologise to Bobby and the rest of the Levenshulme residence. We have discussed this with the driver, and the driver would also like to apologise to everyone.

“As residents and a company of Levenshulme, we are proud to be a part of the community. Amber Cars as a whole again apologises sincerely to all of Levenshulme. Moving forward we will make it clear to all of our drivers and staff that this behaviour is unacceptable.”
