Two men are in a serious condition in hospital after they were stabbed during a late-night attack in Salford .

It is understood that the victims told police they were ‘jumped’ from behind as they walked through an alleyway in Ordsall at 10.20pm on Wednesday night, July 6.

The pair suffered serious knife wounds in the attack, which happened close to the Nine Acre Court apartment block, on Taylorson Street.

Police were called to the scene and found the two men with stab wounds.

A 34-year-old man was treated for injuries to his chest and leg, while a 40-year-old man suffered a wound to his buttock. Both men were taken to hospital.

A police spokesman described their condition as serious, but not life-threatening.

It is understood they were attacked by two unknown men. A motive for the attack is yet to be established.

On Wednesday morning officers from the Tactical Aid Unit scoured the alleyway and the land surrounding the crime scene for evidence.

Police were called to the scene and found the two men with stab wounds.

Officers also used a set of ladders to scale an electricity substation near to the alleyway.

One man, who lives close to the alleyway, said he understands that the victims are both local to the Ordsall area.

He said he was surprised to see police cars and officers in the area early on Wednesday morning.

He said: “It sounds quite nasty and it’s not nice to find the police here first thing in the morning.

“The alleyway is totally dark at night and connects to the park so it’s easy to run off. There’s no CCTV. After 9pm it’s very dangerous there.

“We heard that one of the victims is in a serious condition in hospital.”

A police cordon was put in place between Nine Acre Drive and Taylorson Street up towards Percy Street.

The alleyway is adjacent to the popular Ordsall Park and is overlooked by flats in the tower block.

The cordon is expected to remain in place for some time.

Police are appealing for anybody with information or witnesses to come forward.
