A brutal robber threatened to KILL a blind pensioner as he lay terrified on the floor, the victim’s family have revealed to the MEN.

The 87-year-old man was viciously attacked in his own home in Moston by a robber who jumped on top of him on Friday.

The family of the traumatised widower, who is recovering in a nursing home, are appealing for the public’s help to catch the attacker.

The man’s daughter, who has asked for her father to be identified only as Danny, described the attack as ‘disgraceful.’

“Only the lowest of the low would do something like that,” she said.

“To target a disabled old man like that is sickening. They said if you don’t get us what we want we’re going to kill you.

“My dad still can’t get it out of his mind. He was shaking and crying when I got to him.”

The attack happened after Danny answered a knock at the front door of his home on Rosslyn Road, Moston, at 3pm on Friday. When he opened it, an offender or offenders asked him for a pen and paper, saying they needed to leave a note for his next-door neighbour.

The pensioner turned his back to go inside but when he returned, he realised someone was walking up his stairs. He was then pushed to the floor and jumped on as they demanded valuables and made sickening threats towards him.

He was then dragged into the kitchen where he was assaulted. His wallet was taken and the house was searched.

When they left, the brave OAP managed to get to his phone and raise the alarm with a friend.

It is not known whether one or more person was involved.

His daughter said her dad had escaped with bruising and was feeling ‘surprisingly bright’ after the attack.

She added: “He’s lived in that house for 60 years. Even though he’s blind he would never consider himself vulnerable. All he cares about now is finding the people who did it.

“If anyone knows who it might be or saw something then please get in touch with the police.”

The attack has shocked the community in Moston.

One of the man’s neighbours said: “It’s absolutely disgusting. We see Danny most days. He’s very well known around here. For something like that to happen to an old man is just awful.”
