A Manchester socialite dubbed Britain’s vainest man has told how his desire to become a 'perfect 10' has left him bankrupt.

Ryan Staveley from Deansgate claims he ended up £22,000 in debt from store cards alone after splashing £1,000 a month on clothes and cosmetics to boost his self confidence following a bitter split with his ex.

The 25-year-old explained how the break-up with his girlfriend of 12 years was what sparked his mission for self-perfection, which even saw him use ancient mutilation techniques to shrink his own feet.

Ryan said: “When we split up it completely knocked every bit of confidence I had in myself.

“So I sold her stuff and used the money to pay for botox and tan injections.

“Until that point I’d never done anything for myself, it’d all been for her. I never drank, I worked six days a week to keep a roof over our heads.

"I started making myself look perfect to find myself a new woman and pursue a career in modelling"

“I had a tough start in life and was adopted by my grandparents when I was young, I never had the finer things, and despite working in fashion and cosmetics I always looked on from the other side.

“After we broke up I decided that was it, I wanted the glamorous life and I was going to get it.

Ryan, who works as a fashion and cosmetics manager for high end brands including Chanel, was featured on Channel 5’s “Body Freak: Make Me a Perfect 10”, earlier this month in which he revealed how he used the ancient Chinese method of binding to shrink his feet from a size 10 to a size 6 and a half.

The part-time model says his reasons for using the self-manipulation technique because his “clown feet” didn’t suit his usual attire of tailored trousers.

“It just didn’t look right,” he said.

“People think what I’ve done has made my feet look all weird and horrible but they don’t. There’s a few lumps and bumps but they look normal. And it wasn’t painful, uncomfortable at times yes but it never stopped me doing anything or working.”

But it wasn’t just Ryan’s bank balance that took a hit following the break up.

“I sacrificed eating, anything, walking two-and-a-half miles to work and back so I could buy cosmetics.

“I was going out drinking every night and not eating a lot, and ended up with a lot of medical problems which I now have to live with.

“I was able to look after myself on the outside, but not on the inside, and I struggle to put weight on now and have been put on a special diet to improve my health and physique.”

Ryan, who also volunteers with charity Dementia Friends, says he is finally now starting to feel comfortable in his own skin.

He added: “I’m happier now, with myself, my appearance, and my independence, I’m doing things I wanted to do that I never could before. I love going out in Manchester to nice places and meeting new people.”
