“I’m really pleased for him. And the day before pay day too, I think he will be having a long weekend of celebrations now.”

A spokesman for Camelot, operators of The National Lottery, said he was unable to confirm or deny that anyone had won the lottery in Manchester .

He said: “When someone wins a major prize on The National Lottery and are paid they decide whether to share their news or remain anonymous. If they choose to remain anonymous then their details are not shared with us and we do not release any details.

“As it stands we have no plans for any winners to go public in the Manchester area. Therefore I would not be able to confirm or deny the rumours of a winner.”
