Police are investigating whether a man stabbed just off the Mancunian Way had been involved in a road rage incident.

The motorist was sat in a red Nissan Micra when he was knifed in the shoulder on Sunday evening.

It is understood he was leaving the Mancunian Way slip road leading to London Road in Manchester City centre at around 9.15pm when he was approached by another driver.

It is thought the man got out of his car, opened the Nissan door and stabbed the victim in the shoulder, causing a one inch-deep wound.

The man’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing are not yet clear.

Police say they’re keeping an open mind about the reason for attack, but are investigating the possibility that it was a road range incident.

Paramedics, who alerted police to the attack, were scrambled to the scene after the man was stabbed.

He was taken to hospital, where he is understood to be stable.

A police spokesman said: “The circumstances are not yet clear, but a male in another vehicle appears to have opened the victim’s door and stabbed him in the shoulder, causing a one inch-deep cut.

“We are keeping an open mind about the motives for the attack.”

A post on the GMP City Centre Twitter page read: “Officers dealing with male who was stabbed in shoulder following possible road rage incident Mancunian Way slip road onto London Road.
