A 94-year-old pensioner beaten and robbed in his own home remains seriously ill in hospital as police continue to search for the attackers.

The elderly victim was hit in the face and pinned to the floor as robbers ransacked his house on Priory Close, Sale , in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The heartless thugs fled with cash from a change jar the man used for parking at the hospital.

The pensioner suffered a life-threatening brain injury in the attack.

Police said he remains in hospital and is beginning to show signs of improvement, but described his condition as “still very serious”.

Investigators continue to search for the two men who forced their way into the house at 4am.

Officers said the robbers grabbed and hit the man in the face when he went to investigate the noise.

He was then pushed to ground and held down by one of the thugs, while the other man searched the house.

They left him seriously injured on the floor.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Both offenders are described as white men wearing dark blue coats and gloves. One was around 5ft 7in tall and the second approximately 5ft 9in.

PC Martin Hill of GMP’s Trafford Borough earlier said in a statement: “This was an awful robbery of a man in his own home, which is a place where a person should feel the safest.

“The victim was left all alone injured and in shock on the floor by the two offenders.

“They did not give the condition of their victim a second thought, only caring about what they could get their hands on.

“Given the timing of the incident, it is possible that people may have heard a disturbance taking place before seeing the offenders flee the scene.

“I would like to urge anybody with information to please come forward and contact police.”
