Ryanair flight evacuated, two arrested

Two people have been arrested in Norway after a plane was evacuated at Rygge airport, near Oslo. The two are believed to be from the UK and Sri Lanka. Police say they are waiting for investigations to take place. The flight involved is reportedly FR3225, which should have taken off at 18.55.

Old Trafford evacuation

Police have released this statement: “Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion at Old Trafford on what is described as an incredibly lifelike explosive device. Full assessment has now concluded and found that the device wasn’t viable. A full search of the stadium is ongoing.”

M62 delays

If you’re heading out of Manchester towards Leeds on the M62 this evening, there are some major queues after an accident and spillage between J22 for Rishworth Moor and J23 for Huddersfield. Lane three (of three) is closed, fire and police are on scene.

Old Trafford latest

Police have announced that bomb disposal teams are currently at Old Trafford stadium and conducting assessment of a suspicious device. Manchester United writer Stuart Mathieson has filed this on the confusing yet calm atmosphere inside the ground.

Thousands of fans have just been evacuated from parts of Old Trafford stadium just minutes before Manchester United were due to kick-off against Bournemouth.

Assistant Chief Constable suspended

A top Greater Manchester Police officer has been suspended after an alleged row with a woman superintendent over whose breasts were the most attractive.

Assistant Chief Constable Rebekah Sutcliffe, is said to have got involved in a fracas with Supt Sarah Jackson at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel. The two were at the hotel bar after attending the three-day Senior Women in Policing Conference.

Now ACC Sutcliffe has been suspended for her ‘inappropriate behaviour’. Supt Jackson is not facing any sanctions.

Crash near Old Trafford ahead of United match

A road near Old Trafford has been closed after a crash between two cars.
Police were called to the crash on John Gilbert Road, near Wharfside Way, at 10.30am today.

Officers are hoping to open the road within the hour.

No one was injured in the accident.

Manchester United have warned fans about the closure.

If you’ve looked outside this morning you’ll see it’s a nice bright start to the day. The Met Office forecast indicates it’s likely to cloud over as we move into the afternoon but it will remain dry. Maximum temperature will be 15C.

Travel update

On the trains, there’s a replacement bus service running on Arriva Trains Wales between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester, and on First Transpennine Express services between Manchester Airport and Bolton due to engineering works.

Crash follows police pursuit

This dramatic picture shows the aftermath of a police pursuit in Heywood last night.

The driver of the Peugeot failed to stop for police shortly after 10.15pm on Saturday.

The car smashed through the front wall of a garden and narrowly avoiding hitting the house in Manchester Road in Heywood shortly after the pursuit.

Moss Side attack: Victim dies in hospital

We start with some sad news. The man who was run over then repeatedly stabbed in a daylight attack in Moss Side has died from his injuries.

The 18-year-old, who was taken to hospital on Thursday for treatment to stab wounds to the neck and abdominal injuries, died yesterday.

A 17-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Friday was bailed late last night pending further enquiries.
