Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp has said he could indeed be moving to Manchester .

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, when asked on the Graham Norton Show about rumours that he could become an honorary Mancunian, said: “It’s possible I guess.”

But he added: “Actually, I’ve never been to Manchester. Apparently I already live in Bath - I was seen buying spatulas and stuff. That might be my favourite celebrity spot.”

Claims of Depp’s imminent arrival in Manchester first emerged earlier this month after he was quoted as saying he’d visited the city - and wanted to live somewhere ‘full of real, genuine people’.

Tired of the L.A. lifestyle, the 52-year-old was on his way to our fair city in search of a little community spirit, it was reported.

However, his latest TV appearance has now rubbished quotes saying he ‘had been to Manchester a couple of times over the years’.

Regardless, his latest comments are sure to have fuelled the fires of hope.

And they certainly caused a stir on social media.

Steve Gilbert @Fell_Finder added: “I think Johnny Depp might like Manchester’.”

While Kat @Kathleendipper Tweeted: “there are more rumours that Johnny Depp is going to move to Manchester and I feel I might vomit with excitement.”

Jennifer S @SizeyMcSize added: “Please please move to Manchester Johnny Depp, we don’t care if your dogs have diseases.”

If he does take the Manchester plunge, friendships with Oasis’ Burnage brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher should stand him in good stead.

But he’ll have to adjust to the weather - and also have a sense of humour after posters bearing his face for ‘Sauvage’ aftershave were altered to read ‘sausage’ - sparking a social media frenzy.

But it’s likely the next time he’ll be seen in Manchester is on the big screen - reprising his role as the Mad Hatter in Alice Through the Looking Glass.
