Furious families say they were kept awake for hours after hundreds of people took part in a countryside rave.

Police were called twice to leafy Woodford on Stockport’s border with Cheshire this weekend after reports of up to 200 youngsters partying in a field until 6am.

Cheshire Police received 999 calls from residents in Cheadle Hulme, several miles away, complaining of loud music into the early hours.

Officers first attended the field near Dairy House Lane in Woodford at around 1.30am on Saturday - with the group finally dispersing as officers turned up again at 5.50am.

One furious residents said the ‘illegal rave’ had ‘kept most of Cheadle Hulme and Woodford awake all night’.

Another claimed the road was eventually blocked off by police to prevent anymore people attending.

There were no reports of any trouble and no arrests were made, Cheshire Police said. Residents living in the surrounding area voiced concerns on a community Facebook page, with others turning to Twitter to vent their frustration.

And Jacqui Harnett posted: “Woken by rave music just now in Cheadle Hulme. Police informed over an hour ago apparently!!!”
