A young schoolboy was left with a black eye after being pelted with eggs while he waited at a bus stop.

Five-year-old Michael Bowden let out a ‘horrible scream’ when the missiles were launched at him from a passing car in Dukinfield on Sunday afternoon (July 10), his mum said.

The little lad was left covered in raw egg and suffered a black eye and scratches to his cheek from the egg shell.

Mum Jessica - who was also caught up in the brazen attack on Dukinfield Road - was forced to put her coat around Michael as they travelled home after the ordeal, which happened at 3.55pm.

But the brave youngster has not let the incident shake his confidence and is vowing to give the thugs a piece of his mind if he ever sees them.

Jessica, 28, said she was ‘absolutely disgusted’ that anyone would target a child.

She added: “We were at the bus stop and put our arms out to stop the bus. The next thing we knew we were being pelted with eggs. One egg bounced off my son’s cheekbone and you can see where he has been cut by the shell.

“I didn’t get the registration number because I was tending to Michael. He was really upset. He just screamed and it happened so fast I didn’t know what had happened.

“The egg was all over his eye and top. I had to strip him off and put my coat on him.

“They threw two eggs - one hit my arm and the other one hit Michael directly on the face.”

Jessica had taken Michael and his brother Alfie, two, for a day out at Slide and Seek in Dukinfield. The family were on their way home to Hyde when they were targeted.

The mum-of-two suffered a bruise to her arm and has since been forced to explain to Michael’s school teachers why the youngster has a black eye.

She has reported the incident to Greater Manchester Police.

She said: “I can almost understand it if I had been on my own because young lads can be idiots, but they could clearly see I had a pram with me, even if they couldn’t see Michael.

“It could have been a lot worse if it had hit him directly in the eye. I want them to see what they have done to a little kid.

“He was really shaken but he’s a tough little boy so he says he will find them and shout at them.”
