A convicted rapist has gone on the run after allegedly breaching the conditions of his licence.

Police have urged the public not to approach Darren Craig Teasdale, aged 33, who had been released from prison where he served seven years for rape.

Teasdale, of Albert Road, Levenshulme, is wanted for breaching the terms of his licence agreement after being released from prison where he served seven years for rape.

But he is now wanted after moving address and not informing police - a key condition of his licence, officers said.

He has links to Greater Manchester, Lancashire and North Yorkshire.

Detective Constable Chris Shaw said: “We are appealing for the public’s help to trace this man. If you see him, please do not approach him, contact the police.”

Teasdale was jailed after raping a woman in September 2008.

He beat his victim with a baseball bat and his fists after taking drugs before raping her. At the time Teasdale was living in Lytham Road, South Shore, Blackpool.

Teasdale initially claimed the sex had been consensual.

He was given an indefinite prison sentence for public protection and ordered to serve a minimum of 799 days.

He was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and banned from working with children indefinitely.

He had pleaded guilty to rape just as his trial was about to start. An offence of actual bodily harm was allowed to lie on the file.

But in 2010 Teasdale went to the appeal court to challenge his sentence. He claimed there had been no evidence to suggest he posed an ongoing risk to women. However he failed with his appeal.

Mr Justice Owen, who considered the case at London’s Criminal Appeal Court, with Lord Justice Pitchford and Judge Peter Beaumont QC, said the grounds of appeal were 'unarguable'.

Teasdale had been guilty of a 'very nasty' rape, preceded by 'very unpleasant' violence and degrading treatment towards the woman, he said.

Teasdale was not released until the Parole Board considered it safe to do so last year.
